Protocols: Folate

Psychoactive

Description: Folic acid is the synthetic form of B vitamin folate. Folate is a key regulator of an amino acid called homocysteine, which is produced from the breakdown of amino acids from animal proteins. Important in the synthesis of DNA and acts with vitamin B 12 in the formation of red blood cells.

Method of Action: Folate helps the body eliminate homocysteine, in high levels linked to thickened arteries and high blood pressure, from the blood.

Indications and Usage: Used to help thickened arteries, high blood pressure, prevention of neural tube defects (spina bifida and anencephaly) in babies, and many chronic diseases. Folic acid is abundant in deep-green leafy vegetables, carrots, tortula yeast, orange juice, asparagus, beans, and wheat germ.

Contraindications: Do not use this product if you are lactating without first seeking advice from your physician.

Dosage and Administration: Recommended daily allowance of 200-400 micrograms. Folate requirements are increased during pregnancy.

Clinical Effect In:

Adverse Reactions: Some people are allergic to folic acid pills. People with convulsive disorders or hormone-related cancer should not take doses above 400 micrograms a day for extended periods. Known Interactive Effects:

Additional Considerations: Excessive intake and toxicity symptoms include masking symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency.
